In 2004, a group of Australian Olive Processors and Producers identified the need to enhance food safety, ensure consumer protection, and strengthen consumer confidence, to set requirements for food safety and quality schemes throughout the food supply chain. The promotion of Australian Olive Products Nationally and Internationally was also recognized along with the need to augment a Research and Development program for the National Industry. Following their lead, NOAH Australia (NOAH AUSTRALIA)was launched Nationally on 12th July 2005. The initiative is facilitated by a board of Directors and a Technical Body representing Technical Experts within the Olive Industry.
NOAH AUSTRALIA was launched in an effort to bring cohesion and confidence to the growing Australian Olive Industry. NOAH AUSTRALIA is an Independent Industry initiative. Processors and other Olive Producers are conditionally invited to participate in NOAH AUSTRALIA.
One of the primary objectives of NOAH Australia is to implement and promote a program that will bring together food safety and quality standards within Australia. Retailers and Wholesalers will be able to accept NOAH (National Olive Accredited Harvest) Program based on quality and food safety standards in order to be able to make an assessment of their suppliers private label olive products to ensure that production from olive grove to olive processor is carried out in a safe manner and product quality can be assured. There are many of these standards and the plethora of criteria used for audits means that suppliers with many customers are audited annually, at a high cost and with little added-benefit. Secondly, Australian consumers can be confident that what they have purchased is truly a quality and safe 100% Australian Olive Product.
NOAH AUSTRALIA is to issue a Best Practices Document, containing commonly agreed criteria for food safety and quality standards in Australia, against which any food safety standard can be benchmarked. NOAH AUSTRALIA will not undertake any new accreditation or certification activities but encourages instead the use of third party audits from JAS-ANZ Accredited Organizations against benchmarked world standards.
